Charlotte M. Kilpatrick
Charlotte M. Kilpatrick, 89, passed from this earth Feb. 20, 2022. The only child of Charles and Marie (Cantoria) Scavarda. She was born Jan. 13, 1933, in Trinidad, Colo. Charlotte graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School as valedictorian of the class of 1950. She received a Bachelor’s of Arts in music from Loretto Heights College, Denver, a Master’s of Music Education from the University of Colorado, Boulder and pursued post graduate study at CU Boulder and Denver University.
In 1958 she wed John James Kilpatrick, who preceded her in death in Dec. 1991. She was involved in education for 38 years: School District #1 Trinidad for 13 years and 25 years at Trinidad State Junior College, where she held the position of Professor of Music, Dean of Continuing Education, Dean of Arts and Science and Interim Vice President of the institution.
In 2002 she was given the Centennial Citizen Award by the Historic Society and the Friends of Historical Trinidad for meritorious service to the community. She retired from Trinidad State Junior College in 1992. She remained very active in college and community affairs and was appointed a member of the College Advisory Council and was a member for four two-year terms from 2009 to 2017. She was a member of the college foundation since 1994. In 2012 she established the Charlotte M. Kilpatrick Music Scholarship, making it possible for recipients to pursue the interest in music.
She was a member of the Trinidad Rotary Club since 1985. She was the first woman to become a Rotarian in Trinidad and the first woman to become president of the Trinidad Rotary Club. Charlotte was awarded the Paul Harris Citation and Medal for her outstanding support of International Rotary Programs.
She is survived by her cousins Frank (Jetta) Cantoria, Terry (Geri) Jensen, Lori Ann Cantoria, Frank (Karen) Cantoria, Jr., Mary Anna Cheney and her special friend Gloria Coke.
Pallbearers will be members of the Trinidad Rotary Club.
Visitation will be Monday, March 7, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 12 p.m. at Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home with Brother Harry Gonzales, bfcc. A Funeral Mass will follow the Rosary on Monday, March 7, at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Okeahialam officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family recommends that contributions be made to the Charlotte Kilpatrick Music Scholarship at Trinidad State College.
The family has entrusted Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home with the arrangements.
