Doreen Ellen Johnson, age 82 of Yorkville, IL passed away at Rush Copley Medical Center on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. She was born on December 16, 1939 to Richard and Sylvia (Danek) Casper.
Doreen was united in marriage to Mr. Glenn Johnson and they have spent many happy years together. She graduated from Amundson High School in Chicago, IL and also studied at the Chicago Art Institute. Doreen was employed for many years at Leo Burnett Advertising Co. Prudential Bldg., in Chicago, IL. She was a teacher aid at Boulder Hill Elementary School where she started the Picture Lady Program that introduced children to fine art. Doreen was a pre-school teacher for many years at both the Plano YMCA and the Yorkville Park and Recreation. She also enjoyed her time working for Oswego Home Decorating. Doreen was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she had served as a greeter, an usher and gardening angel. She was also a member of the ladies Knights of Columbus, Divine Mercy Council. Doreen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Johnson; her children, Kimberly (James) Lombardi of Oswego, IL and Troy (Kelly) Rieser of Montgomery, IL; her grandchildren, Jordan (Ilana) Lombardi of Oswego, IL, Joseph (Georgianna) Lombardi of Naperville, IL, Maggie (Mark) Elliott of Yorkville, IL, Jake Rieser of Aurora, IL, and Lindsey Rieser of Oswego, IL; her great-grandchildren, Eloise Lombardi, Lakelyn Elliott, and twins Scarlette and Jack Elliott; her step-children, Cheryl (Ed) Kane of Aurora, IL, Jeff (Trudi) Johnson of Leland, IL, David (Kim) Johnson of Batavia, IL; her step-grandchildren, Bridget Damschen of Aurora, IL, Eddie (Amanda) Kane of North Aurora, IL, Sarah (Chris) Hammer of Tuscon, AZ, Rachel Johnson of Peoria, AZ; and her step great-grandchildren, Danny, Kinley, and Charlotte Damschen, Brynlee and Rheyden Hammer, and Madeline Kane.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Sylvia Casper; her first husband, the father of her children, James Rieser; and her sister and brother in law Jeanene and Bob Hoffmann.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 406 Walnut Street, Yorkville, IL. Interment will take place at a later date.
In loving memory of Doreen, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or St Joseph’s Indian School in South Dakota.
