University 77, Frontier Academy 42, at FA: University had five players in double figures, as it coasted to a Class 3A Patriot League win. Junior Desmond Williams led University with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Williams also had seven rebounds, six steals and two assists. Bulldogs senior Tayt Chacon added 10 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Senior Kanon Padilla chipped in six assists, four steals and four boards. University improved to 10-4 overall, 2-3 in league play. Frontier Academy fell to 3-10, 0-4 with its seventh consecutive loss.
Resurrection Christian 60, Platte Valley 56, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian extended its win streak to seven games and picked up a high-quality league win to improve to 8-3 overall, 4-0 in 3A Patriot League play. Juniors Max Zenk and Zach Uyemura led Platte Valley with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Zenk and senior Aaron Rios had 10 rebounds apiece. The Broncos fell to 8-4, 2-2.
Windsor 61, Holy Family 50, in Windsor: In a clash of top-10 teams, Windsor won its sixth consecutive game and improved to 11-4 overall, 5-0 in 5A/4A Northern Colorado Athletic Conference play. The Wizards came into the game ranked eighth in 4A by CHSAANow.com. Holy Family is ranked sixth. Windsor built a lead early, going up 17-11 in the first quarter and 32-20 by halftime.
Eaton 72, Strasburg 56, in Eaton: Eaton won its third consecutive game and improved to 11-2 overall, 4-1 in 3A Patriot League play. The Reds built most of their lead in the first half, going up 38-25 by halftime. Junior Walker Martin led the way with a career-high 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting to go with 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Junior Zac Grable added 19 and five steals, while sophomore Mitch Haythorn scored 13 points.
Briggsdale 68, Wiggins 61, in Wiggins: After the two teams played to a 47-47 tie, Briggsdale outscored Wiggins 21-14 in the fourth quarter to remain undefeated. The Falcons improved to 11-0.
Roosevelt 71, Thompson Valley 61, in Loveland: Roosevelt produced a season-high in points and secured a quality league victory. After trailing 21-20 in the first quarter, the Rough Riders built an advantage by outscoring Thompson Valley 31-22 in the second and third quarters to take a 51-43 lead heading into the fourth. Roosevelt improved to 8-5 overall, 3-1 in 4A Longs Peak play.
Riverdale Ridge 71, Severance 39, in Thornton: Severance could never recover from a rough start to the game after falling behind 42-15 in the first half. Junior Ty Adam had 15 points for the Silver Knights, and sophomore Brady Varney had 11 points, but they were Severance’s only two double-digit scorers. Junior Parker Gazdik added five steals and three assists. The Silver Knights fell to 5-8 overall, 3-1 in 4A Longs Peak play.
Heritage Christian 75, Union Colony 33, in Greeley: A particularly rough second half erased any hope Union Colony had of engineering a comeback. Heritage Christian led 34-20 at halftime before completely putting away the game with a 41-13 run in the second half. The Timberwolves fell to 6-7 overall, 4-3 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High League play.
Mountain View 67, Northridge 39, in Loveland: Despite 14 points from junior Zach Van Soest, Northridge wasn’t able to keep pace with Mountain View. The Grizzlies fell to 2-13 overall, 0-5 in 4A Longs Peak play. Van Soest was Northridge’s only double-digit scorer. He also had five rebounds and three steals.
Brush 82, Valley 34, in Gilcrest: Valley couldn’t slow down Brush’s offense, as the Vikings dropped to 0-13 overall, 0-5 in 3A Patriot League play.
Platte Valley 56, Resurrection Christian 36, in Kersey: Platte Valley kept rolling with a dominant win against a fellow top-10 team. Resurrection Christian came into the game ranked 10th in 3A by CHSAANow.com. The Broncos are first and have been all season. After a tight first quarter, in which Platte Valley led 12-9, the Broncos began to impose their will with an 18-4 run in the second quarter to lead 30-13 by halftime. Senior Cora Schissler and junior Bree Bunting scored 19 and 14 points, respectively, for Platte Valley. Broncos junior Andi Schissler added eight points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Senior Bryleigh Schweer led Resurrection Christian with eight points. Senior Taylor Wright added seven rebounds and three steals. Platte Valley improved to 12-0 overall, 4-0 in 3A Patriot League play. The Cougars fell to 9-5, 2-3.
University 57, Frontier Academy 18, at UHS: University dominated its intracity rival, improving to 13-1 overall, 5-0 in 3A Patriot League play. Freshman Addison Harding led a balanced Bulldogs squad with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go with five steals. University senior Emry Trujillo added 11 points and 10 steals. Junior Taryn Kravig had five points, eight assists and seven steals. The Bulldogs had 30 steals as a team. Frontier Academy fell to 7-5, 0-3.
Roosevelt 64, Thompson Valley 52, in Johnstown: Roosevelt won its 10th consecutive game via one of its most impressive wins of the season. The Rough Riders came into the game ranked eighth in 4A by CHSAANow.com, while Thompson Valley is sixth. The Eagles (13-2 overall, 4-1 4A Longs Peak) had won seven consecutive games before losing to Roosevelt. The Rough Riders improved to 13-2, 5-0.
Windsor 60, Holy Family 31, in Windsor: With precise outside shooting and smothering defense, Windsor dominated a fellow top-10 team. The Wizards came into the game ranked first in 4A by CHSAANow.com. Holy Family is fifth. Windsor senior Jolie Jiricek led all scorers with 16 points, connecting on 4 of 10 shots from downtown. Junior Hailee Wright and senior Mykaela Moore added 12 points apiece. The Wizards improved to 14-0 overall, 4-0 in 5A/4A Northern Colorado Athletic Conference play.
Weld Central 42, Fort Lupton 15, in Keenesburg: Weld Central snapped its five-game losing streak and improved to 4-12 overall, 1-1 in 4A/3A Colorado League play. The Rebels’ defense was lights out, holding the Bluedevils to six or fewer points in each quarter. Weld Central led 25-6 by halftime. Junior Lacey Schliefelbein led the Rebels offensively with 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting. Senior Jolie McBride added nine points, eight rebounds, six steals and two assists. Fort Lupton fell to 4-7 overall, 1-1 in Colorado League play.
Briggsdale 57, Wiggins 23, in Wiggins: Briggsdale held Wiggins to single digits in each quarter, including two points in the first quarter and three in the fourth. Senior Kylie Krise led the way for the Falcons and single-handedly outscored the Tigers, scoring 26 points on 10 of 14 shooting. Krise also pulled down 13 rebounds and swiped six steals. Sophomore Jenna Krise dished out seven assists and scored eight points. Briggsdale improved to 11-0 overall with the nonleague win.
Eaton 52, Strasburg 28, in Strasburg: Eaton remained undefeated with this comfortable victory to improve to 12-0 overall, 4-0 3A Patriot League play. After the two teams played to an 8-8 tie through the first quarter, the Reds began to build their lead, going up 22-16 after two quarters and 35-20 through three. Senior Ahana Leffler led Eaton with 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Northridge 30, Mountain View 28, in Loveland: Northridge’s offense wasn’t as crisp as usual, but the Grizzlies did just enough to extend their win streak to five games and improve to 13-2 overall, 3-2 in 4A Longs Peak play. After falling behind 11-6 in the first quarter, Northridge outscored Mountain View 24-17 the rest of the way.
Prairie 63, Potter-Dix (Neb.) 43, in New Raymer: Prairie comfortably secured this nonleague win, improving to 4-6 overall.
Riverdale Ridge 62, Severance 57, in Thornton: Severance suffered its third consecutive loss, falling to 5-9 overall, 2-3 in 4A Longs Peak League play.
Brush 49, Valley 40, in Brush: Valley fell short in a tightly-contested, defensive-minded league game. After falling behind 18-10 early, the Vikings trimmed the gap to 23-20 heading into halftime. They weren’t able to get any closer, however, as Brush outscored Valley 26-20 in the second half. Despite the loss, Vikings senior Hallee Sherman had a big game, racking up 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting to go with 12 rebounds and a steal. Valley fell to 7-6 overall, 2-3 in 3A Patriot League play.
Heritage Christian 66, Union Colony Prep 23, in Greeley: Union Colony struggled against one of the top teams in the league. The Timberwolves suffered their fourth consecutive loss and fell to 4-7 overall, 3-4 in 3A/2A/1A Mile High League play. The Eagles held Union Colony to eight or fewer points in each quarter.
Girls swimming and diving
Eaton wins tri-meet, in Eaton: Eaton scored 97 points, Mountain View scored 57, and Valley had 11 points in a triangular dual. The Reds placed first in seven of 12 events. Mountain View placed first in the other five. Eaton junior Caitlin Morgan won a pair of events: the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.21) and the 200 freestyle (2:22.71). Reds freshman Dharma Perkins won the 100 butterfly (1:12.72). Senior Alexis Bruntz won the 100 breaststroke (1:21.48). Freshman Sophie Morgan placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:42.71).
Windsor 99, Niwot 76, in Windsor: Windsor scored a big dual win against a fellow top-10 ranked team. Niwot is ranked fourth, while the Wizards are fifth in 4A, according to PrepSwimCo.com. Windsor placed first in eight of 12 events. Junior Mackenzie Toth won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 188.45. Senior Karter Friesen took first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.88) and 200 freestyle (2:03.74). Senior Delaney Engel picked up a pair of individual wins in the 200 individual medley (2:21.38) and the 500 freestyle (5:45.46). Senior Amelia Perkins was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.44). Senior Nicole Reynolds won the 100 backstroke (59.02).
