Lakewood, CO — Roy Thomas Hutton, 77, of Lakewood, CO died Monday, Jan. 10, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, CO after a short illness.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. MT on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
Memorials may be made to Greater Denver USBC Youth, 99 Xenobia St., Denver, CO 80219; or Denver Dumb Friends League, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver, CO 80231 in Roy’s name.
Roy was born March 25, 1944 in Web City, MO. to Roy and Isabelle Campbell-Hutton.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marines at the age of 17, requiring parental permission. He served one tour and was stationed in the Bay of Pigs during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Roy spent most of his work life at King Soopers Grocery Warehouse. While there, he was an active member of the Teamsters Union Local 435/455, serving as union steward for many years.
Roy met Mary Dobrovolny, who also worked at King Soopers and they were married Aug. 11, 1994. When Roy and Mary became friends, he developed a fondness for her two cats. In later years, he had two very special ones of his own.
Roy was an avid bowler. He thoroughly enjoyed bowling with his son Brian. Roy spent much of his time on various leagues and in tournaments locally and throughout the country.
He was also a strong and loyal Denver Broncos fan.
Roy loved his pickup and fifth wheel trailer. He and Mary spent much time traveling to tournaments as well as seeing many wonderful places across the country. One of their most recent excursions included hiking down into the natural entrance of Carlsbad Caverns and sand sledding at the Great Sand Dunes.
Roy spent the last few weeks of his life visiting with friends and family, sharing memories, mending fences, healing wounds, all with much laughter as well as some tears. It was a joyful time!
Roy is survived by his wife Mary Dobrovolny of Lakewood, CO, formerly of Atkinson; one daughter Kelly Brown of Littleton, CO; one son Brian Hutton of Littleton, CO; one sister Idamae Scholl of Woodbury, MN; three grandchildren Madeline Brown, Jack Brown and Kristine Hutton; one cousin Verda Stoecker of Round Lake, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
