Thornton, Timothy Joseph

Timothy J. Thornton, age 67, died in Englewood, Colorado on Monday, April 4, 2022.
Tim was born February 26, 1955 in Denver, Colorado and grew up in the Congress Park neighborhood. Tim graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Northern Colorado in 1977. He lived in the Denver area and taught high school English and speech for almost forty years. He taught at Regis Jesuit High School, Sheridan High School, Aurora Central High School, JK Mullen High School, and Eagle Academy prior to his retirement in 2015. In addition to teaching, he also coached speech programs at numerous schools. He attained the Diamond Key Award presented by the National Forensic League for his efforts to promote speech excellence among his students.
Survivors include his wife of almost 38 years Jan, son Jimmy, Jimmy’s partner Lindsey, sister Megan Thornton Lyle of Moab UT, and sister-in-law Mary Thornton of Littleton. His brother Patrick preceded him in death. His nephews Sean Thornton and Connor Thornton and their families live in the Denver area and his nephew Peter and his family live in New York. Tim also maintained close friendships from his childhood, student days at UNC, teaching positions, and all walks of his life.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 5th at 2 PM at Grace United Methodist Church at 4905 East Yale Avenue, Denver CO 80222, with a reception to follow at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, the Sierra Club or Anchor Center for Blind Children.
